Basam Books is a small independent book publisher in Helsinki, Finland, established in 1993 and currently publishing 20-25 titles per year. We are known for high-quality translations of literary fiction, poetry, and non-fiction.

Basam Books specializes in Middle Eastern and Asian literatures, philosophies, and religions, as well as cultural history, wisdom literature, and spiritual growth. Our goal is to make accessible for Finnish readers literary works from linguistic areas and cultures which have not been previously translated into Finnish. Translations are always made directly from the original source language into Finnish. We have published works translated from Arabic, Persian, Tibetan, Sanskrit, Pali, Chinese, and Japanese, among others.

Basam Books CLASSICS series presents fresh new translations of the world¹s literary masterpieces. The WISE LIFE series includes high-quality books on spiritual growth and meditation, many of them drawing on the Buddhist tradition. Basam Books has also published so-called PERENNIAL CLASSICS, such as the ancient Mesopotamian epic Gilgamesh, the Egyptian Book of the Dead, and the some of the most important literary jewels of Persian culture.
